– Ben Folds

DH introduced me to Ben Folds and I will be thankful for the rest of my life. 🙂 I fell in love with his piano playing and lyrics, and my introduction to his music reminds me of significant moments in my life so far. DH and I had our first dance to another of his songs (I’ll save that for another day) but this song is probably my second favourite of his songs:

We love this song! And we love this name… 🙂

I love how he expresses both the present as he and his daughter experience it, but also that he speaks of the future, of what he hopes for his child. I think that as parents, we all hope that we would have taught our children ‘all they need to know’, that they would know a bit of what life is about, and that they would know how to be their own person amidst a world that is changing with great frequency. And above all else, we want our children to know that they are loved, and that they are cherished, and that they will always be in our hearts even if they are far away from our arms. Ben Folds says all these things with such tenderness and beauty… what a gift of a song! 🙂
